A Tribute to Scott and His Legacy at Phoenix Communications

William Scott Fuelling

September 4, 1966 – September 7, 2025

Scott began his journey in Knoxville, Illinois, where he attended high school. Even as a teenager, his entrepreneurial spirit was evident—he launched his first company, F&M Sound, while still in high school. When his family relocated to Memphis in 1984, Scott saw the move as an opportunity to expand. He grew F&M Sound into a full-fledged concert sound business, providing audio for major artists performing in Memphis.

Following the closure of F&M Sound, Scott founded a new venture: Sound Concepts, an audio-video company. In 1994, after Sound Concepts closed, Phoenix Communications was born. For over 30 years, Phoenix has stood as a testament to Scott’s vision, innovation, and dedication to excellence.

Scott earned deep respect across the industry. He served on the boards of several professional associations and frequently collaborated with emerging companies to help design and engineer consumer-ready products. His expertise was also sought after in a consulting capacity—one notable client being The Wiz, a prominent electronics retailer in New York.

An engineer at heart, Scott was always in pursuit of innovative solutions. One of his pioneering inventions was a ceiling-mounted projector lift that could be lowered for home theater using groundbreaking concepts in residential technology during the 1980s.

His work caught the attention of industry publications. He was featured in Audio Video Interiors Magazine, a niche publication focused on integrating AV technology into home design. He also contributed several articles to Memphis’s own At Home magazine.

Scott’s legacy is one of passion, innovation, and leadership. While he will be missed dearly, we remain committed to upholding the high standards he set. At Phoenix Communications, we continue to provide exceptional products and services, honoring Scott’s vision as we move forward into a new chapter.
